It's Great to be a Delta Zee at USC!

With exams coming to an end and summer just beginning, it is time to take a look back at all the amazing things our sisters have accomplished this past year. We are so proud of our members for their individual and chapter-wide achievements!

Beta Delta took home several awards during the Greek Life Awards Ceremony held in early April. We received Chapter Excellence Awards in Scholarship, Service and Involvement. Beta Delta was also one of three University of South Carolina sororities to receive the Gold Chapter Excellence Award. Not only did we bring home gold, but we were also named USC's Sorority of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year! It doesn't get any better than that!

In February, Beta Delta visited Georgia State University in order to participate in Region Day with eight other Delta Zeta chapters. Check out this earlier blog post for a complete list of our Region Day Awards!

Beta Delta paired with other USC Greek organizations during Homecoming and Greek Week. We are pleased to announce that our chapter took home 2nd place in Homecoming and 1st place in Greek Week! Thank you to our sisters, partner organizations and the entire Greek community for such successful events.

At the 2013 Leadership and Service Awards, our sister, Holly Ingram, was presented with the Jessica Horton New Student Leader Award. This award is given to one outstanding USC freshman each year. Way to go, Holly!

The University Awards Day was another big event for Beta Delta! Many of our sisters were recognized for their strong academic performance. The Outstanding Academic Excellence Award in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology was presented to Alysson Gatens. Alysson also received the Outstanding Senior Major in Sociology Award. Hailey Grandchamp received the College of Arts and Sciences Rising Senior Award. Alexis Keaton received the Outstanding Biology Senior Award. Morgan Crooks was presented with the Kappa Psi Award on behalf of the College of Pharmacy. Sarah Koslov won the Josiah Morse Award from the Department of Philosophy. Seniors Kara Garrott (2012 Beta Delta VP of Programs) and Laura Wysocki (2012 Beta Delta President) were recognized as individuals in "Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities." Kara Garrott, Laura Wysocki, and Gabrielle Biskaduros also won Outstanding Senior Awards on behalf of the University. We are so proud of our sisters' scholastic achievements!

In addition to academic accomplishments, Beta Delta also had several philanthropic achievements! Our 9th annual Sweet Caroline Bone Marrow & Blood Drive, in honor of our late sister Caroline Terry, was a huge success. We added 376 new names to the National Bone Marrow Registry and collected 136 pints of blood! Our annual philanthropy event, Turtle Tug, raised approximately $24,000 for the Painted Turtle Camp, a camp for chronically ill children. Turtle Tug proceeds also went to Gallaudet University, The House & Ear Institute, Camp Wonderhands, and Brennan Elementary - four great philanthropies that support individuals with speech and hearing impairments. In addition to our two annual philanthropies, Beta Delta also held its first Painted Turtle Trot 5K. We look forward to continuing this charity race next year!

As you can see, Beta Delta has a lot to be proud of. Our sisters continue to exemplify the Delta Zeta creed and the USC Greek Life pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood in their everyday lives. Thank you to all of our sisters on such a successful and rewarding year!
